RICARDO GUITY

Percussion

Ricardo Guity began his career at age 10 as a prodigy under the renowned Master Drummer, Babatunde Olatunji. He is accomplished in a wide array of musical genres, from the Latino styles of salsa, merengue, and cumbia, to pop, rock, reggae, and the blues. Ricardo is Artistic Director of Hagucha Garinagu, a performance group that offers dynamic, inspired, and enlightening presentations with music and dance of the Garifuna culture - a mix of the indigenous people of the Caribbean and Africans that resisted slavery in the 1600s. A key player in developing Punta Rock, an internationally acclaimed contemporized version of Garifuna rhythms; he has worked alongside many other greats such as Youssou N'Dour, Ibrahima Camara, Celia Cruz, and many more. He is managing director and lead teaching artist for the educational organization, ChangoDina, which provides a wide range of options for educators, schools, and universities - from assembly performances to interactive classroom experiences to advanced workshops.
